Artdept used their time in The Engine room to re -contextualise material previously generated through the performance lecture Weeks gave as part of 'The Supper Club' programme at 'The Basement' in Brighton in Dec 2008 and to extend that work.
This reworking of their material resulted in an installation that explored the gap between the Artist and the audience. Through exhibiting video documentation of the viewers reception of the original work in Brighton as the work Artdept shifted the focus from being on Weeks as a performer to the audience as unwitting performers and illustrators of the gap between artists intentions and the audiences reception. In this detournement of their own work their characteristic reflexive awareness and humour were present.
Alongside the video blown up images of Whitford on a wind swept heath, alone but surrounded by the ephemera of performance, and close up shots of the action of pissing in the wind, with the predictable outcome, eloquently contextualised Artdepts feelings of hopelessness about communication and the sometimes rather masochistic pursuit of making art.
